On Sunday, May 26, 2024, during the Memorial Day weekend, I had the privilege of reading from my novel, Anywhere But Schuylkill, at the Punks With Books event. James Tracy organized the collective readings and books signings at Avantpop Bookstore, Las Vegas. It was adjacent to the Punk Rock Bowling music festival that also occurred that weekend. In this video, you will here a welcome by James Tracy, followed by readings by me, Jason Lamb reading from “NoMeansNo, From Obscurity to Oblivion: An Oral History,” James Tracy reading from “Hillbilly Nationalists” & “No Fascist USA,” Juanita E. Mantz reading from “Portrait of a Deputy Public Defender (or how I became a punk rock lawyer),” Michelle Cruz Gonzales reading from “The Spitboy Rule,” and Billy Bragg reading from “Roots, Radicals and Rockers.”
The event was loads of fun and inspiration. Every one of these writers was amazing. All really nice people, too. And what an honor to be able to collaborate with them!
The music that weekend was also incredible. Got to see Billy Bragg perform twice! John Doe. The Descendants, 999, Devo, Skatalites, Subhumans, Rocket From the Crypt, and so many others, too.
